Modularity enabled card issuers to acquire the exact capabilities needed at the time of purchase, while providing flexibility as requirements changed.

In the 1990s, the Datacard hallmarks of personalization, security and collaboration expanded to include another important concept — inline modularity.

Being first to market with secure, high-speed card issuance systems made Datacard Group a leader for our first twenty years. Our innovative modular design concepts allowed us to build on that success.

The concept of modularity enabled card issuers to acquire the exact capabilities they needed at the time of purchase, while giving them flexibility and investment protection as their requirements changed. Issuers could invest in one platform and build on it for years instead of making more frequent full-system acquisitions.

Datacard Group introduced dozens of inline capabilities, including modules for embossing, magnetic stripe encoding, graphics printing, smart card personalization, label affixing and laser engraving. In addition, we developed inline systems for forms printing, envelope insertion and mailing.
