Instant Card Issuance

Card printing, embossing and encoding technologies became available in compact, affordable systems, and desktop card printing was born.

Desktop Printers

As Datacard® systems became a standard for high-volume card issuance, our engineers were focusing on other aspects of the card industry – putting our card printing, embossing and encoding technologies into compact, affordable systems to print cards for lower volume or on-demand applications.

Desktop card printing was born and the concept of card personalization quickly spread into other markets. Secure identification credentials for schools, hospitals and corporations became a reality.

The 90’s saw great improvements in Datacard® desktop systems and a vast expansion in how they were used. In financial markets, our desktop embossing and encoding systems introduced a powerful new concept — instant issuance. Retailers and banks could use our desktop systems to hand credit, debit and ATM cards to their customers, right when they applied for them. This empowered consumers to use their cards immediately and helped card issuers drive activation and usage rates.

We also refined our smart card solutions and collaborated with issuers and banks to bring effective EMV® solutions to various parts of the world. Our offerings include systems for centralized and instant issuance of EMV® branded smart cards, as well as a complete suite of post-issuance management tools for these multi-application smart cards.
