Go Green for Central Issuance
The RFID tag used in many high-volume Datacard® personalization systems has been discontinued, and a new replacement tag with advanced capabilities has been developed. This tag technology is used in both the supply item and the personalization module for communicating valuable information about supply performance and usability.
As a result of the tag obsolescence, all modules that use supply items featuring Intelligent Supplies Technology™ (cleaning tape, graphics ribbon, color printing ribbons, topping foil, topcoats, laminates and thin film overlays) in the following systems will need an upgrade:
- Datacard® Maxsys® card issuance system
- Datacard® MX6000™ and MX2000™ card issuance systems
- Datacard® PB6500™ passport issuance system
- Datacard® MPR5800™ card issuance system
Depending on the serial number of the Datacard® system, there are two types of upgrades that will be required. Older systems will need a mandatory field change order to replace the RFID board in each affected module. Newer systems will only need a firmware patch.
We understand the critical role your Datacard personalization system performs each day to complete your card production needs. In the upcoming weeks, your local service or sales organization will be contacting you with upgrade details and to schedule the upgrade with the least impact to your production schedule.
Datacard Group will be moving to Earth-friendly biodegradable cores for supply items that will only be supported in systems that have been upgraded. More details on new, greener supplies for the high-volume personalization products will be available at a later date.
